eAs my birthday comes around at the end of this month, it is again time to meet the requirements to continue my insurance license. Every 2 years, every insurance agent in Wyoming must take 24 hours of continuing education, that must include 3 hours of ethics training. All this to keep their license, so they can take care of your insurance needs.
In a world ofdo it yourself everything, I have to wonder if going online to purchase your insurance, without the help of an agent, or even over the phone without an agent that you can sit down with and know that they are committed to you…personally, is the best way for insurance to be sold. Since the agent must be licensed, and stay up on the current changes, rules, and regulations in the insurance industry, doyou really qualify to determine coverage needs? Probably not.
When I first started working in the insurance industry in 1989, I came face to face with just exactly what Ididn’t know about my own needs!! Thankfully, I had an agent that cared about my family and me, as they had been our agent for many years, and now would also be my boss. I learned a lot that first year, and I continue to learn as time goes on. That agent has since retired, and I work at a different agency, but the lessons I learned go with me.
I can’t tell you how many people have come to me over the years to talk to me about coverage gone wrong. They found out what coverages were missing when they didn’t have an agent to make sure they had what they needed. I don’t say that you shouldnever buy insurance online or over the phone, I am just saying, that if you do, you really need to educate yourself concerning insurance, because when you buy online or over the phone, you are really your ownagent, and like being your ownattorney, this can lead to problems.
